We used manual
focus on the camera. I learnt that to take a good picture, I need to zoom and
focus the camera by rotating the focus and the zoom rings. Standing in the
T-stance position will help me take a steady picture because it helps you
balance. It would be easier to take the picture I portrait mode as there will
not be any cropping needed when it comes to editing. Some of the images were
out of focus so I rotated the focus ring until I could see that the lens was
focus.
I learnt that
there are three types of lighting: back, side, and front. I found out that the
back lighting was the worst lighting to have as it created a shadow on the
object I was taking a picture of therefore making it dark and not easy to see
the person. The front lighting was good but it was too bright, making the face
very pale and flat. I realized that the side lighting was the best as it shows
dimension in the face without making the face too dark or too light. Most of
the pictures were well composed.
I used the
rule of thirds. This helped me make the image look better and everything in
proportion. The guideline proposes that an image should be imagined as divided
into nine equal parts by two equally-spaced horizontal lines and two
equally-spaced vertical lines, and that important compositional elements should
be placed along these lines and or their intersections. Proponents of the
technique claim that aligning a subject with these points creates more tension,
energy and interest in the composition than simply centering the subject would.
I thought
carefully about the background used for my image as it should contrast with the
object to make it stand out more. I tried to use a yellow background. This came
out horribly because the object and the background blended together and came
out with a terrible effect. The green background was good because it made the
object stand out and makes people want to focus on the object as the background
helps it looks brighter and clearer.
Throughout the
altering of my initial cover I have used a wide range of tools within Photoshop
some that I have used before and others that are new to me. One of the tools
that I have learnt is the cloning tool I have used this to get the effect upon
a page that I require. Other tools that I have used throughout and I am more
familiar with include the gradient and magic wand tools. I found the mouse was
hard to control and navigate around. However throughout the inclusion and
altering of text was easily achieved. The amount of text included has been
controlled to ensure that the front cover is not overly complicated and
therefore appeal-able to the target audience.
Within my
work I used a number of effects and drop shadows upon both my images and my
text this is because it both enhances the overall finish of the image and the
tone within them. Included within the effects I used where outer glow and
embossing certain images. The fonts that I used within the creation of my front
cover can all be found within Photoshop. I have used a small range of colours
to give the front cover a very consistent overall look so the colours that I
chose to use are rose red and white. I chose these colours because it was what
the model was wearing. The title also fit into the colour range as I made it
stand out with a black shadow.
